How to Apply
The Wright Institute admits a select number of highly qualified students each year for the Fall trimester. Applications must be postmarked on or before January 15. Applicants meeting these deadlines will be notified of their admissions status by April 1. Applications received after the January 15 deadline will be considered on a space-available basis. Such applications will be reviewed as quickly as possible, but a response before April 15 cannot be assured. You are invited to make an appointment with Admissions for an informational interview and facility tour. Open House events are hosted in the fall and winter. These events will help acquaint you with the Wright’s curriculum, faculty, and student body. Contact Admissions if you wish to attend an Open House.

The Wright Institute maintains an active policy of equal opportunity in all its admissions. The Institute encourages applicant diversity in terms of race, creed, color, national and ethnic origin, gender, sexual preference, age, disability, and marital status.

The following application materials are required:

1. The completed Application for Admission, your curriculum vitae or resume, and a statement of purpose essay (see application form for details.)

2. Three letters of recommendation. The forms for these letters are included in the application packet and should be completed by the people recommending you. The forms and letters are to be mailed by the recommender directly to the Admissions office. We prefer letters from employers, supervisors, and professors

(not including those to whom you are related, or with whom you have a confidential or fiduciary relationship).

3. One official, sealed transcript from each college or university you attended. If you have not yet completed your degree, an additional transcript verifying graduation must be sent subsequently. Applicants submitting fraudulent documents will be subject to dismissal. A minimum overall undergraduate or graduate school grade point average 3.0 is required for admissions. If this requirement has not been met an applicant can still be accepted under exceptional circumstances. Appeals for waiver of this requirement should be included with the application. (International transcripts which are not in English must be accompanied by certified, literal English translations.)

4. One of your transcripts should show completion of a course in Statistics. You may take and complete this course during the spring or summer before you enter the program. The school must receive transcript evidence of your completing the course prior to September 1 in order for you to matriculate in the fall.

5. An application fee of $5O, which is non-refundable. Please make check or money order payable to the Wright Institute.

6. Official results of the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) General Test in its new format covering Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning and Analytical Writing. (As of October 1, 2002, the GRE General Test and the Writing Assessment Test were combined.) Applicants who took the GRE prior to October 1, 2002, must retake the test so that we have a score for Analytical Writing.

GRE scores will not be considered in the admissions process; they are being collected for institutional research purposes only. Test results do not need to be received in order for an application to be processed; however, they must be received by September 1, 2008 in order for you to matriculate in the fall. (If you have taken the GRE in the past five years, you do not need to take it again. Contact the GRE Board at 1-888-473-7267 or www.gre.org and ask to have your test scores sent to the Wright. The Wright Institute's GRE code is 3057.)

7. Foreign applicants must submit results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The minimum score requirement for the paper test is 600; the computer test 250; and the Internet-based test 100. The Wright Institute school code is 9787.

If foreign students cannot be supported by American funding agencies, they must submit:

  • a Wright Institute Verification of Finances form (available in the Admissions Office) which requires documentation verifying funding sources
  • a letter from your bank verifying a minimum of $125,000 for tuition and expenses (foreign applicants only)

8. Degrees received outside the United States will need to be verified and evaluated for academic equivalence.

The review of applications begins in early January. Based on an evaluation of the required written materials, some applicants are selected to be interviewed.

Out-of-state applicants who can come for an interview are encouraged to do so. If the Admissions Committee elects to interview such a candidate, every effort will be made to accommodate the candidate’s travel schedule. Arrangements can be made for a telephone interview in the event an on-site interview cannot be scheduled.

Applicants who complete their files by January 15 will receive notice of the Institute’s admission decision by April 1. At that time a candidate may be admitted, wait-listed, admitted conditionally, or not admitted. Applicants who complete their files after January 15 may be admitted on a space-available basis and in most cases are notified after April 15.

All decisions of the Institute’s Admissions Committee are final and no appeals will be considered for any reason. The Institute regrets that the complexity of the evaluation process makes it impossible for an unsuccessful applicant to be informed of the reasons for the Admissions Committee’s decision.

Approximately 300 people apply to the Wright Institute each year; approximately 100 students are accepted. The average size of the entering class is 60.
