Professional
organizations
Being active
in professional organizations has a number of advantages to
you and your profession. Aside from the networking, continuing
education opportunities, and referrals possible, your dues
to professional organizations ensure that politicians on the
local, state and national levels have your best interests
in mind. These organizations are instrumental in protecting
and expanding your scope of practice, battling legislation
that threatens psychology, and providing your community access
to needed psychological services.

Job
sites
There are many ways to find a job in the field. Most commonly,
our graduates find jobs through networking, or word-of-mouth.
Peers, colleagues and supervisors can all be good resources,
but you have to put the word out there. The Field Placement
Office maintains a set of clipboards with job announcements
and postdoc opportunities that are available for viewing and
copying during school hours. There are also a number of websites
and listservs on the internet that can point you in the right
direction:

Beginning
a private practice
While private practice can be very lucrative and rewarding,
very few private practices are effortlessly full these days.
Private practice is a business like any other, and should
be treated as such. Most of us could
use a few pointers in running a business, so here are some
resources for developing your private practice:

Licensure and Post Doc Information
The California Board of Psychology is the authority on licensure
and postdoc in the state of California. While those at the
Wright may be able to advise you on postdoc and licensure,
it is ultimately up to you to be sure you have correct and
up-to-date information. When in doubt, email one of the Board's
licensing analysts.
Postdocs are most commonly found through the CAPIC Postdoc
Directory, which you can view in the library or purchase through
CAPIC. Others choose to use a job or psychological assistantship
where you may arrange for your own supervision.

Test prep materials
Here
are the three main publishers of test prep materials. Choose
whichever makes you comfortable. Consider sharing the cost
with a friend, as they can be quite pricey but well worth
it. Passing without some kind
of prep materials is almost impossible. Often these can be
found used over the internet listservs.
