He was the Director of Counseling Services and a member of the faculty at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Dr. Siegel has also maintained a private practice throughout the years, treating diverse populations presenting a variety of psychological issues. His theoretical focus is psychodynamic and group/organizational development.

He began consulting in the late 1950s, serving a wide range of entities such as the Teachers' Corps of the U.S. Office of Education, the Consumer Protection Division of the Ohio Department of Commerce, the National Institute of Mental Health, the American Psychological Association, and the Peace Corps. The services he provided as a consultant also varied tremendously.
